How do I travel to Barcelona?

Arriving By Air

Barcelona-El Prat International Airport

Barcelona-El Prat International (BCN) is the main airport of Barcelona, Catalonia, ideally situated just 14kms far from the City.  

Barcelona-El Prat International has extensive road and rail links to the capital city and beyond. Getting to Barcelona from the Airport is easy with trains, buses, taxis and limousines all operating from the airport.

Girona Airport

The other important airport in Catalonia is Girona Airport.  Girona-Costa Brava airport (GRO) it is the second largest airport at Barcelona area, located at the town Vilobí d’Onyar, 93 kms away from Barcelona city.

Barcelona Sants (Barcelona Train Station)

Considered one of the most used transport hubs in the city, Barcelona Sants station is the primary train station for national and international arrivals and departures. Situated in the west of the city, it is easily reached by bus, taxi or the metro. 

Transportation from the Barcelona Sants Train Station

There is rail transportation available from Barcelona Sants Train Station to the Barcelona Airport. Trains depart the train station every 30 minutes, and the journey time to Barcelona Airport is 22 minutes.

To the Barcelona Airport:

  • RENFE train - every 30 minutes
  • Trip takes 25 minutes

Public Transportation  

  • The metro station has two lines that stop at Barcelona Sants: (Green Line, L3) and (Blue Line, L5)

Getting Around Barcelona

Public Transportation within the City of Barcelona includes the Barcelona Metro, tram, the Ferrocarrils (FGC) rail and buses, all of which offer extensive service to all parts of the city and region. 

You will need a valid ticket at all times when using the public transport services. Vending machines to purchase tickets can be found at every metro and rail station, and are available in several languages.

Metro network

The Barcelona metro consists of eight lines, 140 stations and over 130 rush hour trains. It operates over long hours every day throughout the city and to several municipalities in the metropolitan area.

TMB Bus network

With a fleet of over a thousand vehicles, all of which are adapted, and more than 100 lines, the bus network covers over 900 km between Barcelona and the ten cities in the metropolitan area.
